What survey participants are saying

One of the earliest benefits we’re seeing from GenAI is that teams can request metrics, insights, and reports in plain language and get answers immediately — without needing to know where the data lives.

WB

Wilhelm Brad

Head of Securities Servicing and Solutions, Erste Group Bank AG

Treasury is transforming at an unprecedented rate. The role of the treasurer has shifted from transactional tasks to a key strategic function at the heart of business transformation.

RS

Ray Suvrodeep

Head of Treasury Solutions Group, HSBC

AI is an opportunity for us to drive productivity and efficiency. It’s not just to take cost out, but also to free up capacity to invest in areas where we see growth opportunities we’ve been constrained in.

Report highlight
Market reality is a perfect storm

The forces converging on treasury and capital markets functions have never been more complex or more simultaneous.
And as banks navigate this perfect storm, modernization is no longer a choice – it is a race.

Regulatory acceleration

T+1 settlement mandates, enhanced surveillance, tighter reporting obligations, each placing new demands on data quality and front-to-back controls, all arriving simultaneously.

Macro headwinds

Recession risk, geopolitical shocks, and sustained cost pressure are shrinking the budgets available to respond to everything else on this list. The result is a compounding squeeze: the pressure to modernize is rising at exactly the moment when the capacity to fund and execute it is most constrained.

Technology and competitive advantage

Fintechs, digital-native banks, and platform players are raising expectations for speed, transparency, and automation – shrinking the gap between what was once considered innovation and what is now the baseline. At the same time, AI, tokenization, and CBDC initiatives are reshaping operating models faster than most institutions can absorb them.

Operational resilience / cyber security

Cyber security threats now directly impact market access and client trust. Resilience has become a board-level requirement, not just an IT concern -across trading, funding, and post-trade.

Business is driving the modernisation

Banks are not investing in transformation for its own sake — they are doing it to grow, compete, and remove the constraints that limit what they can offer and to whom.

But ambition alone isn’t enough. The reality of execution tells a different story.

Report Highlight

The execution gap.

Most institutions have clear strategic intent, but lack execution ability. Siloed platforms and fragmented data convert every enhancement into a multi-team, multi-quarter program.

44%

of institutions report skills shortages as a critical barrier to transformation

People

39%

are hindered by fragmented, multi-solution technology landscapes

Technology

50%

report ineffective and inconsistent data management capabilities

Data

75%

of firms have not yet reached higher levels of operational performance maturity

Report highlight

Leaders invest only where it delivers measurable value

The difference between leaders and those that are catching up is discipline: directing investment toward initiatives with clear business outcomes rather than fragmented or purely experimental innovation and modernisation.

88%

of leaders cite business growth as the primary driver of modernisation investment
